The past six months Shurane Vijayaram was a landscaper, he used to play poker, but had never made the money in any tournament.
But today the fortune of this 33-year-old player changed, now he is a millionaire and travels to the world playing poker, and now he is in New Zealand with his eyes on the (APCME) Auckland Poker Championships Main Event which is taking place at the Sky City casino.
In the world of poker, Vijayaram has the stories of one of the greatest rags-to-riches. On 2017 January, he paid the amount of $130 at Crown Casino in Melbourne to enter in the tournament; he won the tournament and earned $10,600 ticket of the main event of the Aussie Millions.
After that, over eight days, this amateur player outlasted 724 entrant field, which included virtual presence of all top poker pro from all over the world to take home the first place prize of $1.6 million dollars.
Now, Vijayaram is looking forward to play his life’s second biggest buy-in tournament. The event is $2,300 main event and it tournament is taking place in the Sky City casino of Auckland.
Speaking about his participation in the tournament Vijayaram said, “After winning the Aussie millions I have not played much. I have played only three or four tournaments and one of those was the hunter tourney $120 bounty at SKYCITY. Honestly, after winning the tournament, my life hasn’t changed much. I am the same me, who was before winning the tournament, the only difference that has come to is that I drink expensive and better wine now.”
“After winning the tournaments, I have spent a lot of my time on reading books written on poker. I think by now I am a semi-pro and will become a full time pro after some time.”
